How Hermine began
Hermine began with Lilly Ball and a love of vintage she couldn't keep to herself. She started selling on Instagram, one piece at a time, first come, first served. A devoted following found her quickly and kept coming back for the next find.
Then Lilly met Willy Schwartz. The two began working together out of a small studio in Minneapolis, filling it rack by rack until it couldn't hold any more. They had outgrown it, and it was time to look for the next chapter.
They found it in the Warehouse District, downtown. Both are Minneapolis natives, and the corner of 1st and 3rd felt like home right away. It sits a little off the beaten path, which suited them even more. Imperfect but passionate, full of life and hard to knock down.
They named the shop Hermine, after Hermine Demoriane, a singer, songwriter and tightrope walker. She took bold risks and lived a little outside the norm. That felt like the right name to carry.
Natural fabrics, on purpose
Wool, cotton, silk and linen. We look for fibers that breathe, soften with wear and hold up for decades.
Orders ship in recycled and biodegradable packaging. The clothes get a second life. The box shouldn't outlast them.
A slower way to shop
We would rather you buy one thing you love than five you forget. Well-made clothes, worn often and kept for years, are the whole idea.

Hermine is a quiet argument for second lives. For buying less, choosing well and keeping longer. For clothes that carry their history and gather a little more of yours. We believe the most sustainable piece is the one that already exists, and that care, not novelty, is what makes something yours.
